Shopping for cosmetics is fun, but nothing beats the satisfaction of making your own cosmetics that actually work! Especially since it usually doesn't take much to create a perfect product in the comfort of your home. Most ingredients can be found in your kitchen, and if you run out, they're available at any grocery store. So today, I'm thrilled to share five recipes for homemade cosmetics. I've personally tested them all and can confirm – they're truly effective!
Cucumber moisturizing mask
To moisturize and nourish your skin, you don't always have to run to the store. Home remedies can sometimes be much more effective. Cucumber, used in cosmetics for years, helps brighten the skin, adds radiance, and gently refreshes it. Natural yogurt, on the other hand, will keep your skin smooth and soft. You'll also treat yourself to fifteen minutes of relaxation and a moment for yourself.
Preparing the mask: Mix half a cucumber with a tablespoon of plain yogurt. You can grate the cucumber finely or simply blend the entire mixture until smooth. Either way, thanks to the yogurt, the mask will adhere well to the skin and won't run off. Leave the mixture on for about fifteen minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. You can also place two cucumber slices on your eyelids to refresh your eyes. Remember to choose tried-and-true vegetables, free from unnecessary chemicals, and it's best to prepare the mask during cucumber season.
Lavender body mist
Lavender is renowned for its relaxing properties. Its scent calms, relieves stress, and allows you to unwind. This mist is perfect for brightening up evenings or mornings after a stressful day. Simply spray it on your body or rub a small amount into your temples or wrists.
Preparing the mist: Place four tablespoons of lavender flowers in a container (preferably a bowl) and pour in two cups of water. Then place the bowl in a pot filled with water that reaches halfway up the bowl. Simmer the mixture for about two hours over low heat. Then strain and pour into a spray bottle (you can use one from a used cosmetic product). Add 8 drops of lavender oil to enhance the aroma.
Coconut oil for makeup removal
Rich in fatty acids, coconut oil is an ideal ingredient for moisturizing and soothing our skin. Thanks to its oily formula, it also beautifully dissolves makeup. So, if you use waterproof mascara or eyeliner, don't invest in expensive two-phase liquids. Instead, make your own makeup remover. Your skin will thank you for it.
Preparation of the oil: Mix a cup of coconut oil (in liquid form) with 3 drops of lavender oil or orange blossom oil. Mix thoroughly and pour into a convenient bottle that allows for precise dosing. This mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Remember that the oil can be used in two ways: apply a small amount to a cotton pad and use it to remove makeup from your face, including your eyelids, or apply a small amount to your fingertips and massage your face. Then, use a damp cloth to remove any remaining makeup and rinse your face with water.
Beer hair softening rinse
Beer is renowned for its antibacterial properties. It's also rich in B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, and iron. This is why it has been used in cosmetics for years. Many women praise its benefits for hair. Properly diluted, it's said to add shine, strengthen, and visibly soften hair. The effects of a beer rinse can be stunning, visible after just one use!
Preparing the rinse: Boil half a cup of beer for 10 minutes to evaporate all the alcohol. Let it cool, then add half a cup of water, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and optionally two drops of lemon oil. Use this mixture as a final rinse after washing your hair. Then, style your hair as usual. Remember not to overdo it with the beer and don't forget to boil it. Otherwise, you might be surprised – your hair may become stiff and difficult to manage.
Sugar scrub for the scalp
Sugar particles are excellent at removing dead skin cells and are easily rinsed from the hair. When added to your favorite shampoo and clay, they wonderfully refresh the scalp, reduce oiliness, and strengthen hair follicles. Sugar scrub, used regularly, preferably no more than once a week, will significantly improve the condition of your hair.
Preparing the scrub: Mix three tablespoons of sugar with two tablespoons of your favorite cleansing shampoo. Optionally, you can also add green or yellow clay (1 tablespoon) to enhance the effect of the mixture. Mix all ingredients in a ceramic bowl – if you choose clay, remember not to use a metal spoon, which will "kill" the powder's properties. Once you have a uniform, thick paste, apply it to the roots of your hair and massage into your scalp. Take your time, work slowly, and don't rub too hard to avoid irritating your scalp. After about two minutes, rinse thoroughly under running water. Immediately after, apply your favorite conditioner or mask. Done.
