Stores bombard us with constant promotions. When we go shopping, we see "sale" signs on every other window. The same is true online. We're exposed to temptations when browsing social media, blogs, or YouTube videos. So how can we avoid buying unnecessary items, avoid temptation, and maintain common sense while shopping? You'll find some tips in today's article.
How to shop wisely?
Prepare a shopping list – don't leave home without it, whether for groceries, the mall, or the drugstore. This will make it much easier to stick to your plan and avoid spontaneous and unnecessary temptations at promotional prices. Check the contents of your cupboards – before you go shopping, check what you actually have at home. This applies mainly to food. Often, when preparing dinner, we write down the ingredients we need on a piece of paper, forgetting that two pastas bought on the last sale are already waiting in the kitchen drawer. The contents of a woman's wardrobe are similar. Compare prices – are you looking for a new little black dress, a new phone, or a cosmetic? Regardless of what's on your list, always check for bargains. Promotional leaflets, websites with discount codes, and various shopping groups are available online, making it very easy to save with a little research. Read the ingredients – be aware of what you're buying and what you're spending your money on. This applies to the ingredients of clothes, cosmetics (especially for sensitive or problematic skin), and food products. Sometimes, a single glance at the label can effectively discourage you from adding a product to your cart. Choose quality over quantity – a longer comment is probably unnecessary here? Instead of three cheap face creams, choose one without clogging ingredients and with natural ingredients. Sometimes it's worth spending a little more than cluttering your makeup bag, wardrobe, or apartment with mediocrity. Save for your dreams – living beyond your means isn't a good idea, but if you really want something, try saving up for it. Put 2 or 5 złoty coins left over from shopping in your piggy bank. Put aside the change you were planning to spend on fast food or unhealthy sweets. You'll be healthier, you'll practice self-discipline, and sooner or later, you'll fulfill your dream. Stick to your preferences, don't succumb to trends – buy things you actually like, will use, and need. Don't decide to buy something just because it's currently fashionable, fits the latest trends, or completely doesn't suit you and your lifestyle. You'll only spend money unnecessarily because you won't use it anyway. Don't stock up —unless it's essentials that "go fast," like antiperspirant, shower gel, or soap. Having one bottle in your stash is fine, but why buy five mascaras or three body lotions when deals are everywhere? Don't blindly trust recommendations —what works for your friend or favorite blogger won't necessarily work for you. Before making a purchase, consider your skin type, figure, taste and preferences, and lifestyle. Sleep on the decision —if you're unsure about a purchase and know the store doesn't accept returns, think it over, give yourself a moment, and if you're still thinking about the item the next day or a few days later, return it.
What to do if you make a shopping mishap?
Return the item to the store if you can – most brick-and-mortar and online stores offer returns, and it's worth taking advantage of this opportunity if you know an item won't suit you. Give it to your loved ones – you can give unwanted cosmetics, clothing, or other items to your mom, sister, or friend, if they'd like to try them on and use them. Swap or sell online – don't have anyone to give it to? Try swapping with friends online, or simply selling the item. There are many auction sites and dedicated groups on social media, so you're sure to find people interested in buying or swapping.
