How to enhance the effect of a hair mask?

Jak wzmocnić działanie maski do włosów?

Are you constantly testing new hair care products? How many times has a product not worked as intended? You've probably experienced, instead of beautiful, moisturized locks, a dull, unmanageable hairstyle. We've got a few ideas for how to enhance the effectiveness of a mask or other daily product so it doesn't sit forgotten on the bathroom shelf.

Dry your hair

When reading product labels, we often delve into the ingredients: the amount of proteins, silicones, and moisturizers. Often, we completely unknowingly overlook the instructions to gently towel-dry hair before applying a mask. The reason is simple: the product will be diluted on wet strands, which can reduce its effectiveness. Hair enthusiasts often recommend using a softer fabric for this purpose, like a regular cotton T-shirt.

Comb it out

After application, gently comb your hair with a brush of your choice. This can be a Tangle Teezer, Ikoo, or a wide-toothed comb. Since wet strands are more susceptible to damage, proceed with extreme caution. Combing will ensure the product reaches the entire length. However, be careful not to apply the mask too close to the scalp, as this can weigh down the hair or accelerate oiliness. The exceptions are products specifically designed for this purpose, based on plant extracts and vitamins.

Cap

It's often added to ready-made treatments, which work best when combined with heat. Deep-acting masks are best covered with a special plastic cap or even a towel. An additional benefit of using it is that it keeps hair in place, without the risk of staining your bathrobe or clothes. Another new product is a cap with gel inserts that must be warmed in the microwave beforehand.

The right amount

When first testing a new mask, it's difficult to determine the right amount of product to use at once. We usually do this roughly, based on our own experience. However, sometimes – if we apply too little – the product won't cover the hair completely. This often results in weighed-down ends that lack moisture. When applying, it's also a good idea to gently press the product in with both hands, working from top to bottom. This will enhance the mask's smoothing effect.

Time

Manufacturers typically list the optimal time to nourish your hair on their packaging. However, this is a generalized average, and it all depends on the product's ingredients and the condition of your hair. It may be that the mask is so rich that it weighs down your hair within the timeframe specified by the manufacturer. However, more often than not, with dry and damaged hair, it may be too weak within the same timeframe. In such cases, you can easily extend the rinse time.

Raise the temperature

High temperature opens the hair cuticles, allowing the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the hair structure. The simplest method is to apply the mask while taking a warm bath or gently warming your hair with a hairdryer. Again, a shower cap is a good idea, as it maintains the proper temperature and facilitates the entire treatment.

Extras

A great way to intensify the effects of a cosmetic is to enrich it with additives, depending on the current condition of your hair. The choice depends on your preferences and hair condition. This could be a bit of oil for brittle hair, hydrolyzed keratin for damaged and curly hair, or honey and aloe for dry and dull strands.
