We all have days when we struggle to get anything done. Whether it's work or household chores, time passes, and we're still sitting in the same position on the couch or busy with side hustle. So what can we do to motivate ourselves, get moving, and then find satisfaction? In today's article, we'll share a few tricks and habits that will help when it's time to get our act together and get to work.
The hardest first step is just getting started!
Sometimes, due to the sheer volume of responsibilities, it's hard to even get started. We think we won't get there anyway, that we won't do something well enough, and that's where the roadblock begins. That's why it's crucial to let go a bit, not stress, and just take that first step. Need to prepare a proposal for a client or documents for your accountant? Set aside, for example, 10 minutes for the task and focus solely on that. In most cases, once the time is up, you won't want to stop and will finish what you started, despite your initial reluctance.
Priorities always come first
Always start your day with the most important tasks; then you can be sure they'll be completed and you'll be satisfied. Many unplanned events can occur throughout the day, distracting you from work and preventing you from completing your planned tasks. You might also feel unwell or simply be tired. Therefore, don't postpone priority activities until late afternoon or evening.
Plan your day
A daily schedule always streamlines everyday life and motivates you to take action! Of course, it's impossible to plan your time down to the minute, but it's worth regularly writing down what you want and need to do. Checking off completed tasks brings satisfaction and motivates you to continue working. So if you're struggling to get your act together, grab a piece of paper, create a "to-do" list, and consistently complete it, item by item. Writing everything down will also help you avoid wasting time wondering "what to do next."
Don't work in bed
Just staying in bed for a long time can make you lazy, so working in pajamas under a warm blanket isn't the most productive option. So, skip the trips to the bedroom during the day if you want to work quickly and comfortably, and above all, maintain good hygiene. Also, remember that a semi-reclining position isn't kind to your spine, so a comfortable chair and a surface (table, desk—it doesn't matter!) are essential, especially if you spend many hours in front of a computer.
Reward yourself
Rewards are motivating, so why not pamper yourself a little for a completed task? It doesn't have to be a big deal. Make a pact with yourself to call a friend after answering all your emails, or grab a cup of delicious coffee after ironing a pile of clothes. Small pleasures encourage further action, so if this method works for you, you can create your own reward system and use it in moments of weakness.
Take care of the space where you work
Clutter makes it harder to focus and concentrate on a specific task. If you're struggling with this, make sure your surroundings are tidy. This isn't about making excuses and washing windows instead of working. Simply tidy up the space a bit – fold scattered clothes, put things back in their place, put dirty dishes in the dishwasher or sink. Just 10 minutes can make your work much more enjoyable. However, if you're facing a deadline, just tidy up your desk, look away from the remaining mess, and get going! You'll wash the dishes later!
Always be ready to go
Whether we work from home or are just doing it ourselves, we spend most of our day indoors. However, that doesn't mean we have to constantly walk around in stretched-out sweatpants, makeup-free, and with disheveled hair! Let's remember once and for all that we should look good not only for others, but above all for ourselves. Besides, if you try to look nice when going to the office or doctor's office because other people see you, why not make an effort for your loved ones? There are so many beautiful casual clothes in stores that you can easily create a comfortable and stylish home uniform. Add some subtle makeup and a quick haircut, and you'll instantly feel better and have more energy. So, always try to look presentable so you can leave the house in peace or open the door for the postman without embarrassment.
