Our kitchen is a true treasure trove of natural beauty products. We often don't realize the excellent and multifunctional ingredients we have at hand. You don't always have to spend a fortune to achieve visible results. Sometimes inexpensive and common products can do a great deal for our beauty and help us care for it daily. Below is a list of unassuming helpers you're sure to find in your kitchen drawer.
Linseed
Flaxseed has a positive impact on us, both in terms of health and beauty. It's a source of iron, magnesium, B vitamins, and zinc, among other things. In cosmetics, flaxseed is most often used to prepare hair masks. It has a wonderful effect on the scalp – soothing, calming, and perfectly moisturizing. It also nourishes hair, improves its condition, accelerates growth, and acts as a natural styling agent.
Recipe for a flaxseed mask: Pour water over two teaspoons of flaxseed and cook for about fifteen minutes, stirring constantly. Once a gel forms in the pot, separate it from the seeds using a strainer. Then, apply the gel to freshly washed, damp hair and leave on for about 30 minutes. Afterward, rinse under running water. You can also mix the gel with your favorite mask or conditioner to enhance the moisturizing effect.
Lemon
Lemon is a true vitamin powerhouse! It contains a high content of vitamin C, vitamin A, minerals such as potassium and calcium, and fruit acids. This makes it an ideal ally in the fight for healthy skin. It lightens discolorations, helps even out skin tone, and provides a wonderful radiance. It also reduces sebum production and has antibacterial and astringent properties.
Lemon toner recipe: Add three lemon slices to a glass of mineral water and let sit for about thirty minutes. That's it, your toner is ready. If you're looking for a more intense brightening effect, you can add more lemon juice or dab the discoloration with just the lemon peel. However, remember that this fruit can cause skin sensitivity, so don't overdo it.
Oat flakes
Oatmeal not only has a beneficial effect on our health, but is also a fantastic skincare ingredient and a brilliant natural exfoliant. Oats are rich in amino acids, which delay skin aging. Furthermore, oatmeal masks gently, yet effectively, exfoliate and smooth the skin.
Oatmeal scrub recipe: Cook a handful of oats with three tablespoons of milk over low heat until a thick paste forms. You can also add a little honey. Wait for the scrub to cool slightly. Then apply it to your face and massage in circular motions for at least a minute.
Honey
Honey has versatile uses in cosmetics. It's an antioxidant and has strong nourishing and moisturizing properties. Furthermore, it has excellent rejuvenating and regenerating properties, heals imperfections, and helps maintain a fresh, radiant complexion.
Honey lip mask recipe: Exfoliate your lips with sugar and a little honey, or use a toothbrush. Then, apply a thick layer of honey to your lips. It will perfectly repair cracked, chapped areas, provide long-lasting moisture, and bring relief.
Tea
Tea has taken the cosmetics market by storm, and it's no wonder. It's a true source of polyphenols, tannins, calcium, potassium, iron, vitamins A, C, and E, and many other nutrients. Tea is a natural antioxidant and has powerful skincare properties – it moisturizes, soothes irritations, smooths, and brightens the complexion. It also helps combat blackheads and beautifully refreshes hair color.
Recipe for a black tea compress for puffy eyes: Steep two black tea bags for about fifteen minutes. Then let them cool slightly and apply to your eyelids for 10-15 minutes. You can also chill the bags in the refrigerator; in both cases, they will beautifully reduce puffiness, open up your eyes, and soothe redness.
Coffee
Aromatic coffee not only tastes delicious in the morning but is also a true nutritional powerhouse. It contains caffeine, which is valuable in cosmetics, as well as organic acids, B vitamins, and antioxidants. Furthermore, coffee is a source of fatty acids and essential oils. This slows down the skin's aging process, has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and cleansing properties, helps fight cellulite, and effectively exfoliates and strengthens hair. Therefore, coffee can easily be called a multifunctional cosmetic.
Coffee scrub recipe: Mix two or three tablespoons of coffee grounds (previously brewed and cooled) with a little olive oil. You should achieve a thick paste consistency that you can massage your entire body with. After this scrub, body lotions or butters are unnecessary.
Milk
Milk beautifies, as Cleopatra knew, regularly taking milk baths. This white drink is a true fountain of youth. Rich in unsaturated fatty acids, minerals such as calcium, potassium, and phosphorus, vitamins A, E, and B vitamins, and proteins, it has versatile benefits. It moisturizes the skin, prevents water loss, soothes, cleanses, and alleviates irritations (for example, sunburn). Milk bath recipe: Pour a liter of milk into a bathtub filled with water. To enhance the nourishing effect, you can also add two tablespoons of honey to the mixture. Immediately after bathing, be sure to rinse your skin under running water, pat it dry, and apply your favorite moisturizing lotion.
Olive oil
Olive oil is not only a culinary delicacy but also an excellent skincare ingredient. It has antioxidant properties and is rich in beauty vitamins A, B, C, E, and F. Olive oil has fantastic regenerative, nourishing, and protective properties against harmful external factors. It also delays the skin's aging process and has a beneficial effect on wrinkles, effectively smoothing them.
Recipe for an olive oil nail and cuticle conditioner: Pour olive oil into a bowl and warm it slightly. Then, dip your nails in it and soak for a few minutes. You can also apply the oil directly to the nail plate using a clean brush, such as a nail polish brush. And for a whitening effect, squeeze a few drops of lemon juice into the bowl. Remember, however, that the mixture should be warm, as oils absorb better at higher temperatures.
