Well-groomed, healthy skin is undoubtedly a woman's asset. Every day, we strive to make it look its best – we test new cosmetics and new rituals. Sometimes, however, this isn't enough, and despite regular care, our skin begins to rebel, and we start to wonder "why?". In many cases, the answer is simple – we're doing something wrong. Therefore, in today's post, we'll tackle the most common skincare mistakes. I invite you to read on; I hope you'll find these tips useful.
Inaccurate makeup removal
Washing your face with soap and water for 30 seconds won't remove all your makeup. Even the most expensive cream won't work well if you pat it onto makeup residue, dust, and sebum accumulated throughout the day. It's worth devoting some time to makeup removal, pre-removing your makeup with micellar water, and then washing your face with a gentle cleansing gel. If your skin is particularly sensitive and prone to clogging, you can use a cleansing brush, either mechanical or sonic. The market now offers such a wide selection that everyone can find a product tailored to their needs.
Sleeping with makeup on
One of the most common crimes! Admit it, honestly, how many times have you gone to bed with your makeup on? :) We've probably all made this mistake at least once. By not cleansing our skin before bed, we deprive it of the opportunity to regenerate and rest after a long day, exposing ourselves to a rash of blemishes and irritations. Is it worth it? The answer is obvious – definitely not. Therefore, regardless of the time or how we feel, let's always take a few minutes to remove our makeup, and our skin will quickly reward us with a healthy appearance, improved tone, and improved hydration.
Too aggressive cosmetics
Have you ever considered that your skin might be producing excess sebum simply because you're cleansing too thoroughly? It's a fairly common problem. Aggressive cleansers, mattifying creams, harsh exfoliants, and alcohol-based toners are supposed to help, but when used too often, they actually harm your skin. The skin defends itself against dryness and, as a result, becomes oily, and often reacts with redness and breakouts caused by irritation. It's worth remembering that even the most problematic and oily skin requires regular moisturizing and gentle skincare products.
Squeezing pimples
This is another bad habit that's hard to break. An unsightly pimple is always annoying, and we want to get rid of it as quickly as possible, but it's really better to leave it alone. Tinkering with pimples can result in a rash of blemishes all over the face, unsightly scabs, and scars that will take a long time to deal with. Sometimes it's worth giving up, even if just for a moment. You can always treat the enemy with a special cream, and if you don't have one on hand, I recommend the post " 10 Proven Ways to Treat Pimples " – most of the ingredients can be found in your kitchen.
Too much at once
Moderation and common sense are key. By dabbing on serums, cream after cream, and finally a mask, and constantly testing new products, we won't be able to truly understand the effects of each product on our skin. Worse still, we could be harming ourselves, as some products don't work well together and may cause allergies. Another important consideration is that ingredients in one product can sometimes inhibit the effects of another, so let's be mindful of our skincare routine.
Not listening to the needs of your own skin
One of the most basic skincare mistakes. Regardless of skin type, we should always focus on what's best for it. We should observe our skin every day and respond to its needs. Don't blindly believe recommendations or follow strict rules. There's no universal recipe for healthy, well-groomed skin, so sometimes it's worth taking a risk and, through trial and error, finding what works best for your skin.
Avoiding creams with UV filters
Regardless of how your skin reacts to the sun or your complexion, sunscreen is essential. It's best to buy at least SPF 30 or SPF 50 for maximum protection. Even if you're not afraid of sunburn, don't forget about UVA rays. They're responsible for photoaging, and surely none of us wants to get wrinkles for free along with a tan. Furthermore, it's important to remember that most creams with acids and exfoliating properties make the skin more sensitive to the sun. This increases the risk of discoloration, allergies, and irritation.
Not using eye cream
Many women think that eye cream should only be used when the first signs of aging appear. Unfortunately, that's not how it works. While it won't eliminate wrinkles that are already there, if used early enough, it can delay their appearance. It will also moisturize and nourish the thin, delicate skin around the eyes. So, make applying eye cream a habit, and years later, you'll see it was worth it.
Washing your face at the very beginning
Do you wash your face first in the shower, then your hair and then your entire body? This habit can negatively impact your complexion. Sometimes, improperly rinsed conditioner or shampoo can cause a rash of pimples on your temples, hairline, or back. Therefore, the order is important – first your hair, then your body, and finally your face. This will ensure that all impurities have been thoroughly removed and your skin is prepared for further treatments.
