The trend of using oils for body care no longer surprises anyone. Oils can be applied to hair, improving its condition, and to the entire body, ensuring proper skin hydration. As it turns out, this treatment is also great for nails, especially damaged ones. Learn about the benefits of oiling your nails and the properties of individual oils. This will help you choose the ones that best suit your needs.
Who are oils for?
Oils are an excellent treatment for people with damaged and weakened nails. Regularly applying gel polish or acrylics is not good for the nails' condition. Improperly trimming cuticles also poses a significant risk. Another problem, quite serious and common recently, is the use of conditioners containing a dangerous ingredient: formaldehyde. While the presence of this ingredient in nail care products is normal, it's important to pay attention to its concentration. Nail polishes and conditioners primarily use Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin, whose main purpose is to preserve the product and harden the nail plate. The permissible formaldehyde content in conditioners should not exceed 2%. This substance has a strong allergenic effect on the skin. It can cause dry cuticles and rashes, or even cause separation of the nail plate from the nail bed. Using oils can help restore the strength of your nails.
If you have brittle, fragile nails with irregular coloring, or visible ridges or even gaps, be sure to try oiling. There's a good chance you'll be able to say goodbye to these problems once and for all without professional intervention.
Oils and their properties
1. Flaxseed oil – rich in omega-3 fatty acids, it accelerates nail growth, prevents splitting, and makes nails strong and healthy.
2. Sesame oil – similar to flaxseed oil, it prevents splitting and breaking of nails. It strengthens the nail plate and accelerates growth.
3. Macadamia oil – perfect for weak, thin nails. It brightens the nail plate and adds shine.
4. Coconut oil – deeply moisturizes cuticles (as well as hair and the entire body!) and smells wonderful. It's primarily responsible for the regeneration of damaged nails.
5. Evening primrose oil – thanks to the presence of gamma-linolenic acids in the oil, nails become harder and almost completely stop breaking.
6. Argan oil – rich in vitamin E and fatty acids. Regenerates damaged nails and gently accelerates their growth.
7. Pumpkin seed oil – has antifungal properties. It accelerates the regeneration of damaged nails and significantly strengthens them.
Using oils is a very effective solution, and more importantly, it's not expensive at all. You can find oils in any store—grocery, health food, or herbal medicine. Oiling can be done both hot and cold. Just remember not to heat the oils to high temperatures, as they will lose their nutritional value!
