Self-confidence – how to develop it?

Pewność siebie – jak ją wypracować?

Self-confidence, of course, the healthy and conscious kind, is the foundation of well-being. Unfortunately, we often lack it. We feel lost, unsure of what to do next, and not fully trust ourselves. The new year is the perfect opportunity to start working on this area of our lives and navigate the coming months more consciously and confidently. As with many things, nothing happens overnight. Building self-confidence takes time and patience. Discover 7 steps that may accelerate this process.

1. Know your strengths

No one is perfect. Each of us has our strengths and weaknesses. That's just how it is. Instead of focusing on what we can't do, it's worth honing what we're good at. Developing talents and expanding skills. Knowing your strengths and utilizing them daily significantly improves your well-being and boosts your self-confidence.

2. Don't compare yourself with others

This is a very harmful and, unfortunately, very common behavior. What does it lead to? It only leads to self-deprecation. There will always be someone better or worse than us in a given field. Instead of comparing yourself to those better, observe how they perform a given activity. Focus more on what you can do for yourself to improve, but above all, consider whether you really want to be good at this particular thing. No one is a master of everything, so maybe sometimes it's worth letting go and letting someone else prove themselves?

3. Start small

You won't reach the top in one giant leap, but you can get everywhere with small steps. Instead of dwelling on the end result, which may seem daunting and unattainable, focus on the here and now. Thinking about what you're striving for but don't yet have can only depress and discourage you. Patience and hard work are the foundation of every success.

4. Praise and appreciate yourself

People who lack self-confidence find this difficult. Very difficult, even. But sometimes, think about how much you've already achieved. Where are you now, at this point in your life, and what were you like a year ago? Recall your successes, even the smallest ones. Nothing boosts your self-confidence like the awareness of your ideas and goals you've already achieved.

5. Say STOP to negative thoughts….

Negative thoughts, once they occupy our minds, are intrusive, tiring, and difficult to stop. Fortunately, it can be done. Instead of repeating "I can't," "I can't," "I won't succeed," take a deep breath and say loudly and clearly, "I CAN, I CAN, I CAN." Repeat this many times until you finally believe it, smile to yourself, and take action.

6. …and perfectionism

There's always something you can improve, work on, change, tweak, and so on, endlessly! But why? Striving for perfection is the surest path to disappointment and being let down by yourself. Isn't it better to acknowledge that we've done everything we can and simply move on?

7. Keep yourself in a good mood

If you find yourself struggling with something, let it go. Instead of getting frustrated, simply postpone it. Use the break to indulge in something enjoyable that will lift your spirits. Positive energy and peace of mind can work wonders – your mind opens up to new ideas, and suddenly everything becomes clear and logical.

Knowing your worth is a wonderful thing that requires work. It's not worth giving up on, even if you keep falling into the same patterns and mistakes. Remember that nothing comes instantly. Fortunately, there are methods that will certainly make it easier to achieve your goals.
