Lip care in winter

Pielęgnacja ust zimą

The fall and winter months are quite challenging for our lips, especially since they're naturally demanding. Lips exposed to wind, frost, and freezing temperatures can chap and crack more quickly. Therefore, proper care is crucial to avoid discomfort and pain. What should it look like? Below are a few helpful tips. Use them and enjoy well-groomed lips, regardless of the season.

Regular exfoliation

Exfoliating your lips is a crucial part of lip care, yet it's often overlooked. It's worth taking a moment to gently massage your lips with a toothbrush or prepare a moisturizing and exfoliating mixture of honey and sugar. Mix the two ingredients by eye, then thoroughly massage them into your lips. These two quick treatments will remove dead skin, while the honey will also moisturize and nourish your lips.

Always moisturize your lips before leaving the house

It's worth developing the habit of regularly applying a protective balm to your lips, especially before leaving the house. The protective, moisturizing layer will protect them from drying out and cracking and will keep them looking their best. You'll notice the difference very quickly; it's no secret that consistency is key.

Have lotion on hand

If your lips are naturally sensitive, always carry a protective balm with you. Don't limit yourself to just one, stock up on several – keep one on your desk, another in your purse, and a third on your bedside table. This way, you'll be able to moisturize your lips at any time and prevent their condition from worsening. It's also worth mentioning that stick versions are best for use outdoors – they're simply more hygienic, while at home you can reach for nourishing butters in jars.

Avoid licking

When our lips are chapped, we tend to lick them. Quite often, this is an automatic and completely unconscious reflex. Unfortunately, it doesn't help; on the contrary, it actually causes harm. It causes our lips to dry out even more and begin to crack. Therefore, it's worth working on controlling and eliminating this habit. The positive effects will be noticeable immediately.

Don't nibble!

Picking at chapped lips with protruding dry skin is another nasty habit that many people unfortunately struggle with. Don't do it under any circumstances, even if you're tempted! You don't want to end up with swelling or painful, unsightly wounds that are difficult to heal. If you feel any bumps on your lips, simply focus on intensive lip regeneration; it's the best thing you can do for them.

Replace matte formulas with creamy ones

When lips are a problem, it's worth replacing matte lipsticks with moisturizing, creamy formulas. Long-lasting, highly pigmented, and shimmer-free lipsticks look beautiful, but unfortunately, they're not good for dry lips. Not only do they highlight imperfections, but they also exacerbate chapping. There's a wide selection of moisturizing lipsticks on the market, so if you don't want to give up color during the day, you can easily reach for them.

Drink plenty of water

Excessive chapped lips can also be caused by dehydration. It's worth remembering that water not only quenches thirst but also affects our functioning and overall appearance. That's why it's so important to consume adequate amounts. Don't forget to drink at least 1.5 liters of fluids a day. The results will quickly surprise you. If you don't like plain mineral water, add a handful of your favorite fruit and warming spices – you'll have a delicious and healthy drink. You can also download a special app on your phone that will remind you to drink a glass of water. :)
