Simple rules for maintaining healthy hair

Proste zasady zachowania zdrowych włosów

I think we all love the moment we leave the hairdresser's with shiny and nourished hair. After all, hair, like well-groomed hands and nails, is, in a way, our calling card – it's visible, distinctive, and often reflects our personality. However, even without professional salon-fresh products, we can improve its condition, and therefore its appearance. See for yourself!

You are what you eat and your hair feels it too

This saying is very well-known and absolutely true. Whether we're talking about the impact of what we eat on our skin or hair, it's obviously better to eat healthily and sensibly. Eliminating excessive sugars (especially simple sugars), as well as fast food and processed foods, will certainly have a positive impact on the condition of our tresses. It's worth replacing unhealthy foods and snacks with foods rich in amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. So, reach for fish, beef, or liver, which are rich in iron, and definitely include vegetables, fruits, and seeds, as they are a source of health and energy.

Investing in your hair is a good investment

For truly visible results, hair treatments require consistency. It's worth investing in a detoxifying shampoo that will cleanse your locks of accumulated dirt (including those invisible to the naked eye). Regularly trimming your ends is also a good idea (you can do this yourself at home or ask a friend for help). Trimming your ends, contrary to popular belief, doesn't accelerate hair growth (hair grows from the root, i.e., the scalp), but it does minimize breakage. This, in turn, makes trimming your hair feel like it's grown back faster. Hair simply doesn't break until the ends become damaged and brittle again. A scalp massage can stimulate hair growth. Gently massage your scalp with your fingers for a few minutes while washing your hair, or indulge in a relaxing session during the day. Also, remember to wash your hair thoroughly and slowly. If you wash your hair in a hurry and rub it hard, you can damage it further and cause excessive frizz.

Care for your hair depending on its length

This is also very important, as short hair requires different care and treatments than medium-length and long hair. First and foremost, long hair is simply older. Just as you care for your skin according to your age, you should care for your hair according to its length. For short hair, a good shampoo and conditioner matched to your hair type are all you need. This type of care is sufficient between light trims. For long hair, it's worth choosing a more nourishing shampoo and conditioner. Furthermore, before styling, it's a good idea to apply a moisturizing oil to the ends of your hair. This will help prevent excessive frizz and split ends.

Be careful with styling

Blow dryers and straighteners can become both our hair's worst enemies and allies. If possible, let your hair air dry naturally or dry it with a cool airflow. However, if you're drying your hair in a hurry, a warm—or even hot—airflow is essential. In such situations, don't forget to apply a hair protectant. Currently, there's a wide range of products available on the market designed to protect hair from treatments like blow-drying, styling, and straightening.
