Cranberries – an ingredient worth introducing into your diet right away!

Żurawina – składnik, który warto wprowadzić do swojej diety od zaraz!

Cranberries are called the fruit of youth and health. In Poland, this plant is still underappreciated. This is primarily due to a lack of knowledge about them and the lack of skills in using them. You should know that cranberries are a vitamin powerhouse, and you should include them in your daily diet today.

What's hidden in cranberries?

The richness of cranberries stems primarily from their high vitamin C, A, and B vitamin content. Cranberries contain trace elements such as iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iodine. The presence of fiber and carbohydrates is another major health benefit. The seed oil, on the other hand, contains omega-3 fatty acids, citric acid, malic acid, and quinic acid. Among the chemical compounds found in cranberries are tannins, which can inhibit ulcer bacteria; flavonoids, which act as antioxidants and support skin renewal; and antioxidant anthocyanins, which improve night vision. It's also worth mentioning the antibacterial and antifungal properties of cranberries, which can make them an indispensable ingredient in your home care routine for acne-prone and oily skin.

When to reach for cranberries?

The health benefits of this unique plant are undeniable. It's recommended primarily for those suffering from urinary tract infections, but also for blood and liver problems, stomach ailments, or a loss of appetite. Cranberries are also an ally in combating the symptoms of the herpes virus. Consuming cranberry juice helps detoxify the body of toxins and helps regulate metabolism. If you struggle with bad breath, reach for cranberries without hesitation. Thanks to their properties, they significantly reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth, which translates into fresh breath, while also improving gum health and reducing tartar buildup. Furthermore, studies have shown that a diet rich in cranberries inhibits the development of cancer cells.

Fighting bladder infections

The high fructose and antioxidant content in cranberries prevents bacteria from settling in the urinary tract and adhering to the bladder walls, which is necessary for their multiplication. Also important is the vitamin C found in cranberries, which stimulates our immune system to fight various infections. If you suffer from recurring urinary tract infections, be sure to try cranberry juice. Consuming large amounts of this drink helps reduce the frequency of urinary tract infections. However, remember that this is not a treatment, but merely a support system for your body. In such cases, it is best to seek medical advice.

Benefits for blood

Cranberry juice helps increase "good" cholesterol (HDL) and also affects the concentration of antioxidants in the blood. Studies have shown that drinking three glasses of 100% cranberry juice daily for about three months helps prevent heart disease. However, remember that pure cranberry juice is highly acidic and so strong that it can damage tooth enamel, so it should always be diluted.

What is the best form of eating cranberries?

Even very large amounts of cranberries are safe (assuming there are no contraindications). The form in which you introduce cranberries into your diet is irrelevant and depends solely on your culinary preferences. This is primarily because cranberries lose virtually no of their valuable properties after processing. You can easily reach for the cranberry juice mentioned in the post (you can buy it in health food stores or, if you have a juicer, juice it yourself), dried cranberries – perfect as a snack between meals, or jams, preserves, or meat sauces – ready-made or homemade. Include cranberries in your diet today! It's truly worth it.

Contraindications

Do not consume cranberries if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking warfarin. Taking cranberries in these cases may pose a health risk, as they may increase the anticoagulant effect of medications and cause heavy bleeding. If you have prostate problems or serious kidney disease, ask your doctor if you can drink cranberry juice. It's worth remembering that long-term consumption of cranberry juice may increase the risk of kidney stones, as it contains oxalates. However, if you don't have any of the conditions mentioned above, don't wait – introduce cranberries into your culinary life today!
